Custom design + install

Landscape Install.

Custom landscape design and installation for DFW homes. From plant selection through bed shaping, mulch, and drip irrigation — landscapes built for the way Texas weather actually behaves.

Newly installed drought-tolerant Dallas landscape

Landscaping built for the DFW climate.

The single biggest mistake we see in residential landscaping is plant selection that ignores the local climate. Someone buys plants because they look nice at the nursery, installs them in May, and watches them fry by July. Then they replace them the next spring. And the next spring. And then they call us.

Our DFW landscape install process starts with plants we know will thrive — drought-tolerant species that handle Texas heat, hard-freeze-tolerant varieties for our occasional winter shocks, and the right groundcover and grass selections for each part of your yard's sun and shade profile. We've been refining this list since 2010 and have replaced exactly the plants you'd expect with the ones that actually work.

What a landscape install looks like.

A typical DFW landscape install runs three to five days on-site, with about a week of design and planning beforehand. Here's the sequence:

  • On-site walk-through. We come out, measure, and listen to how you want to use the space.
  • Design + plant list. Sketch layout, plant species list, hardscape coordination notes, and a written estimate.
  • Prep + clearing. Remove existing plants, grade beds, address any drainage issues.
  • Bed shaping + edging. Steel edging where it makes sense, hand-shaped curves where it doesn't.
  • Planting. All plants installed at the right depth, soil amended as needed, root zones watered in.
  • Drip irrigation. Run drip lines to each plant or use spray heads where appropriate.
  • Mulch. Dark hardwood mulch — not red rubber — applied at the right depth (2-3 inches typically).
  • Walk-through + handoff. We walk the finished install with you, answer questions, and set up ongoing maintenance if you want it.

Plants that actually work in North Texas.

Some of our most-used plants for DFW landscapes:

Structural / tall layer: Texas Sage, Vitex (Chaste Tree), Texas Mountain Laurel, Possumhaw Holly, Crepe Myrtle (Tonto, Catawba, or Natchez varieties for our climate).

Mid layer: Salvia greggii, Lantana, Knock Out Roses, Mexican Feather Grass, Russian Sage, Texas Lantana.

Groundcover / front layer: Asian Jasmine, Liriope, Ornamental Sedum, Creeping Phlox, Mexican Heather.

Beyond these we keep a working list of about sixty species we know perform in DFW. We select based on your yard's specific conditions, not a generic plan.

Drip irrigation, mulch, and the boring details.

The visible plants are usually what people focus on, but the boring details are what determine whether your landscape thrives or struggles. Drip irrigation delivers water directly to plant root zones — dramatically more efficient than spray heads in the Texas heat, and much better for plant health. Mulch keeps soil moisture in, weed pressure out, and root zones at a stable temperature. We use dark hardwood mulch at the right depth, refreshed annually. These details cost a little more than the cheapest option but they're what separate a landscape that looks good for one summer from one that looks good for ten.

Ongoing maintenance — if you want it.

After your install we'll offer to roll you into our landscape maintenance program — quarterly visits to prune, refresh mulch, check plant health, and adjust drip irrigation. Most clients opt in. Some prefer to maintain themselves. Either way, the install is yours and there's no obligation.

Common questions

Landscape Install — FAQs.

How much does a landscape install cost in DFW?
Most landscape installs run between $3,500 and $25,000 depending on yard size, plant complexity, and any hardscape coordination. Smaller front-bed refreshes typically start around $2,500. We send a detailed written estimate within a week of our on-site walk-through.
How long does a landscape install take?
Most residential installs are completed in 2-5 days once we start. Larger projects with hardscape components, multi-acre lots, or extensive irrigation may take 1-2 weeks. We schedule installs in good-weather windows to avoid soil damage.
Do you handle drip irrigation?
Yes. We design and install drip irrigation for new beds as part of most landscape installs — drip is dramatically more water-efficient than spray and much better for plant health in the Texas heat. We coordinate with your existing sprinkler system or install standalone drip.
What kind of plants do you use?
We specify plants for the DFW climate — drought-tolerant species that can handle 100°F summers and the occasional hard freeze. Common choices include Texas Sage, Vitex, Texas Mountain Laurel, Knock Out Roses, Salvia, Lantana, Asian Jasmine, and Mexican Feather Grass, plus dozens of others depending on your specific yard.
Do you do hardscaping like patios and pathways?
For pavers, retaining walls, and pergolas we partner with trusted DFW hardscape specialists rather than doing it ourselves — it's a specialized trade with its own engineering requirements. We handle the coordination so you get one project, not two contractors to manage.
What's the best time of year to install landscaping in DFW?
Fall and early spring are ideal — cooler soil temperatures help new plants establish before summer heat. October-November and February-March are our most popular install windows. Summer installs are possible but require more attentive watering during establishment.
